Resurgence

Outside of Washington, D.C., many regard the South Bay and its respective beach cities as the capital and birthplace of the hardcore music movement. Birthing bands such as Black Flag and Pennywise out of Hermosa Beach, the 1980s is highly regarded as the peak of the scene, and other than its resurgence in the early 90s with the rise of the Descendants from Manhattan Beach, the momentum that once carried these local acts to worldwide stardom has slowed down back into smaller venues and a wider variety of genres.

In recent years, the overall movement has slowly started to pick up again, with an influx of local acts coming out of the South Bay emerging back onto the national stage. At Hard Line Skate Shop earlier this December, local acts Me + You, Pile Up, Plasmahaven, and Muscle Memory all represented their own assorted genres of hardcore music to a crowd of all ages; from a 6 year old boy with his parents to the elderly men that run the store, going on the microphone between each set telling everybody to "Stop jumping into each other!".

Me + You and Plasmahaven soon go on tour together along the west coast in 2 days at the time of writing, so be sure to catch a show if they're in your area and catch what just might be The Return of the South Bay...
